How will we know if 2012 is real?

June 25th, 2010

For those expecting a pole shift or a planet-wide meltdown on December 21, 2012, the transition to the next level of consciousness may prove a disappointment. While dire events could occur, the greater probability is that a gentler transformation will take place over time. 2012 represents a culminating moment, but the Shift has been in progress for several decades, and will continue far past 2012. Radical change may not be noticeable until the acceleration of thought is so visible that we have a collective awakening and recognize that, yes, the world is very different.

How will we know if 2012 is real? The list of signs may sound familiar, but the dynamics faced by the planet are shifting, so look for tipping points and unexpected breakthroughs, as well as new challenges. In other words, it won’t be a settled picture; understanding the Shift will require our discernment and appreciation of how change works on a planet just taking baby steps into the fourth dimension.

How might it look? Here are some ideas:

Earth Changes: Is 2012 underway?

April 23rd, 2010

The list is lengthening. In April, a 6.9 earthquake in China, a 6.3 in Spain, a 6.8 in the Solomon Islands, a 7.8 in Sumatra, and a 7.2 in Baja California—all these after the 7.0 in Haiti and the 8.8 in Chile earlier in 2010. Now Eyjafjallajokull has erupted in Iceland, with its sister volcano likely to issue 10 times as much ash if it erupts also.

The earth is rumbling, but we don’t know if it’s coincidence, normal scientific variation, or—the unthinkable—the early signs of geologic change associated with 2012. I don’t know, either, but I would urge everyone to keep a close eye on the planet over the next six months. If 2012 is real, we are about to witness disturbances of a magnitude not seen before.

In a blog post, I can’t describe the mechanics behind 2012 and earth’s tectonics. Go to www.welcoming2012.com for the full explanation. But the short version is that 2012 is about a drastic shift in the energy configuration of the planet. You and I are feeling the effects of an accelerated field of energy that has speeded up our lives, induced changes in the body, driven old ideas and institutions into oblivion, and affected the core geometrics that hold earth’s physical contours in place. We have plenty of visible evidence that society is in the throes of massive change; the earth will move right along as well.

Expect division in 2012: Why the world will polarize

January 15th, 2010

In my last blog, I noted the Pew’s report on the surge in spiritual awakening in the U.S., as well as the eclectic nature of America’s spiritual practices. I’m not unaware that there has also been a rise in fundamentalist beliefs in this country and all others. This, too, is part of earth’s spiritual growth as 2012 nears. But the question is: If 2012 marks the transformation of earth into a more love-based, spiritually-sophisticated planet (which it does), why has religious intolerance and spiritual contentiousness increased in the last few years? Why so much hate if love is on the way?

Metaphysically and metaphorically, light requires darkness. The more darkness, the greater the need to press forward into illumination and awakening. That, in essence, is the dynamic operating in the run-up to 2012. In fact, polarity—the tension between opposites—is a key driver to our evolution. Unconsciously, we create the ideal conditions for growth. One of those conditions is to threaten ourselves with fear until we realize finally that it would be far more productive and soul-satisfying to focus on our common humanity and hopes rather than dogmatic divisions.

Obviously, many instances of cooperation and understanding occur that offset the inherent divisiveness of human life. In fact, the world is rapidly unifying as technology allows us to see each other up close no matter our country of origin. But 2012 requires that we be more unified and heart-felt than we are presently. We need a stimulus—and fear will do it. Every bomb, every threat, every act of intolerance and hatred, will increase—exponentially—our desire for peace and unity.

The forces behind 2012: Why is there a spiritual awakening?

January 8th, 2010

The Pew Research Center’s Forum on Religion & Public Life report on spirituality in America just came out, with some interesting numbers. These surveys have been going on since the 1960s, and the latest survey showed increases or stable numbers in the usual categories. The U.S. is a faithful nation, but highly eclectic. The churchgoing percentage is high (35%), but a quarter of us blend traditional Christianity with Eastern or New Age beliefs such as reincarnation, astrology and the presence of spiritual energy in physical objects. According to Pew, “sizeable minorities of all major U.S. religious groups say they have experienced supernatural phenomena, such as being in touch with the dead or with ghosts.”

But one figure has really spiked. Nearly half of the public (49%) now reports that they have had a religious or mystical experience, defined as a “moment of sudden religious insight or awakening.” This figure is much higher than in 1976 and 1994 and more than twice as high as in 1962, when it was 22%. How do we explain this?

Understanding why people are ‘awakening’—and why the percentage will be much higher in future surveys—flows from knowing that larger forces are at work. Those forces impact the energy states, or consciousness, of each of us around the globe. We are energetic beings, composed of vibrating waves of light. As more energy is poured into our system, including our bodies and earth, everything vibrates faster. As we vibrate faster, our consciousness—our thoughts and emotions—change. Suddenly, many of us recognize, at a deep level, that we are spiritual beings having a human experience. We ‘awaken.’

2012: It’s not about the Mayan Calendar

January 1st, 2010

A recent Bizarro cartoon (one of my favorite strips) showed a Mayan stone carver holding up a completed, round stone calendar disk and informing his fellow carver that he had, “only enough room to go up to 2012.” “Ha!” laughed his colleague, “That’ll freak somebody out someday.”

Indeed. We’re freaked. As 2009 comes to a close, the images of the movie 2012 still linger, with that wall of water sweeping over the Himalayas and the ground tilting until New York City slides into the sea. I expect the public appetite for the ultimate disaster to subside slightly as we return to the business of a new decade, but you can be sure that fear will return—and most of it will be referenced to the Mayan Calendar, which will be cited as evidence for the end of the world.

Don’t go there—either to fear or to assuming that the Mayans could foresee the future. They couldn’t. In fact, if you choose, you can understand far more about 2012 than the Mayan priesthood of 1500 A.D.
